Land of the Long White Cloud.
In a world of urbanization and overpopulation I want to bring attention to the beauty of the untouched wilderness; to the importance of our relationship with nature.
Aotearoa is the Maori name for New Zealand. Many meanings have been given for the name but with Maori names the true meaning is often disputed and answers can be found only in mythological stories. The most popular meaning usually given is “long white cloud”.
From there 'The Land of the Long White Cloud'.
The project started as a 12-artwork series however, I keep expanding it.
To create each artwork I travel to remote locations and often hike for hours, sometimes days. Documenting eye-catching compositions with my compact camera.
I then go back to the studio and try to infuse my emotional experience through a careful selection of shapes and colors.

As a child, I grew up in the city... all year long. For me wondering in the wild, far from any signs of civilization, has been a very profound experience.
Reconnecting with nature has been a key to battle my anxiety and depression. Spending time outdoors has affected my life and mental health in a very positive manner.
This newfound love and appreciation for mother earth have been the driving force behind this series.
Joy is what nature brings in me, joy is what I want my artworks to radiate, the joy of being alive. I know many people feel alone and disconnected, just like myself. I want to remind them, that nature is there for us.
