In this work, green is given the centre stage, lush, endless, and expressive. It’s both a portrait of a place, where the ocean and the land meet, but also a meditation on the colour green itself. From emerald forests, to warm olive in the sunlight reflecting the lushness of Picton and of the Marlborough Sounds.
Part of Kat’s ongoing exploration of water reflections, Picton Harbour captures the way light trembles across the surface - a landscape caught between stillness and motion.

From the heights of Crown Range Road, the view opens into a sweeping valley with Queenstown glimmering in the distance. Capturing the drama and rigidity of the alpine, using vivid colors, in just the right shade to create a sense of depth and carry your eye trough the landscape. Kat is drawn to dynamic angles, and overlapping diagonals, finding them exciting and contemporary.

Ōtautahi from above: the plains stretching wide, the Alps breaking the horizon, and the glimmering lights of the city unfolding below. Summit Road has always been Kat’s favourite place to take a break from the city. The fog that day made everything feel more mysterious and special, which in turn inspired this artwork. For Kat, panoramic views like this turn even small details (like the new Christchurch stadium) into part of a bigger, living landscape.
