About Kat.
After graduating from the National School of Applied Arts in Graphic Design (in her hometown of Sofia, Bulgaria), Kat decided to leave her home in search of answers, inspiration, and to embark on the journey of self-discovery as a person and as an artist.
Seven years beyond the equator, her journey took her to Australia and then to Christchurch, New Zealand, where she currently has a studio, lives, and works as a self-representing artist.
About the work.
While examining her past projects, one can feel that she is in the early stages of her artistic career, marked by a spirit of experimentation.
Her art is strongly inspired by nature and our relationship with it. Most of her paintings are based on photographs she takes during her travels or even in her garden.
You can understand Kat’s work by looking at each series as a project on its own, delving into its unique concept and theme. Her process begins with travel, photography, and sketching on location, gathering impressions that later shape her work. With a background in fine art and graphic design, she blends bold colors, sharp edges, and dynamic brushwork, creating a sense of movement and rhythm. Informed by the traditions of landscape painting, Kat aims to breathe new life into the genre.
She has exhibited in Christchurch, New Zealand and Sofia, Bulgaria, with her work featured in publications and collected across the US, Australia, Europe, and New Zealand.

Why yellow?
“In my personal life, the colour yellow is a symbol of light, joy and hope. It’s strong, yet playful. I feel it resonates on my frequency and I use it as a carrier of that joyful energy I want my work to radiate.”
