The Naked Truth:

Episode 001 - Photography with Ivana Janovska @ivana.rgb

The human body has been a subject of art for centuries, and photography is no exception. However, with the prevalence of objectification in the media, the female body has often been reduced to a mere object of desire, rather than a work of art.

In our recent episode of the podcast with Ivana, we explored the issue of female objectification in photography, and how it impacts her as an artist on social media. We discussed the restrictions around nudity in photography and how it is often viewed as objectification. We also talked about how not all nudity is objectifying, and the power of non-sexualized representation of the body.

It's no secret that artists, especially women, are often censored on social media, while other provocative content seems to find its way on the platform. Where is the boundary between art and porn?

Our relationship with the naked body has changed over time, and today, we're desensitized to explicit content, or at least this is what Ivana believes. She shared her experience watching the movie ‘Viridiana’ from the 60s and how women and their roles are portrayed there. However, we talked about the importance of non-sexualized representation of the body, and how it can help us see naked bodies for what they are, the vessel we are all born in, and promote a healthier relationship with our own bodies and the bodies of others.

She has a very intriguing way of styling her Instagram feed, diving her work into projects, and hiding some pictures behind cover photos.

We also got to know a bit about Ivana’s journey from picking up a camera for the first time dring her trip in Mexico to hosting a photography exhibition. She shared how she finds models and what her goals as a contemporary photographer are.
