3 tips for creating original work (applicable to any arts)

1. Look into different fields of art for inspiration (rather than your own)

For me personally, my interests outside of painting is what fuels my most creative ideas. Fashion can inspire painters, paintings can inspire musicians and music can inspire actors. It doesn't even need to be art, it can be cooking, hiking, gardening....honestly whatever, as long as you're passionate.

It's not only that but for me looking at other let's say landscape painters, just makes me want to copy some of their ideas. When looking at a different medium however, the idea of adaptation and transition helps to make the work unique.

2. Get familiar with the concept of fusion

I know lots of people who say that everything has been already done, and we are just recycling - I just couldn't disagree more. I think now we live in the age of fusion. Combining fields and practices never combined before. Drawing new links, using new technologies.

Fusion for me means, combining two (or more) separate, techniques, fields, things.
It means looking at things from a new angle, repurposing. Connecting dots, which haven't been connected before.

3. Don't be afraid to execute/believe in your ideas

New ideas require new methods and techniques and sometimes that looks like too much work, but this is the only way. Otherwise we are bound to repeat what everyone else is doing.

Trying something new also sometimes, means failing and learning, which is a humbling experience, but it's important to not get discouraged.

Another important point to make here is that some people around might think your ideas are outrageous, and that only implies that you should give it a try.

There are many aspects of the world which we don't understand, many questions left unanswered and art has always been on the forefront of new society, by having the ability the self-express freely, which means to not be afraid to execute even your most crazy ideas.
